Meaning of Flowers
Throughout history, flowers and greenery have played a myriad of roles: sacred, ceremo-nial, superstitious (such as in use as love charms and witchery), medicinal, legendary, and prognosticatory (as in weather forecasting). Certain flowers had specific meanings due to the fact that the flower selection was limited and people used more symbols and gestures to communicate than words.
An old proverb claims that a bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives roses. Yet another alludes to the fact that awareness of good deeds precedes the doer like the fragrance of flowers on a gentle breeze. Today, there are many flower choices and there are no specific rules, it is usually the sentiment that gives the gift its meaning.
